So there’s this huge pot of community soup. Let’s call it Culture. Culture Soup. It has been simmering on the stove for ten, maybe twenty thousand years. We can all drink from it, and we can all add ingredients to it.
I make art and poetry, those are my ingredients. I’m confident that my ideas have value and if I put them in the pot, someone, somewhere will taste them. Maybe they’ll think it tastes good, or maybe they’ll believe they can make it taste even better, so they add ingredients. There is beauty and nourishment and important stuff in Culture Soup, and I help make it.
I could make a piece of art and sell it to someone who puts it in their house, which adds a little to the pot. Or I could exhibit it before thousands of people in galleries and museums and online, which adds a lot more to the pot. I’ve drunk a lot of that soup over the years, and I feel it’s important that I contribute what I can.
So I make a lot of art, I show it a lot, and I hope it tastes good to you.
